Key Capabilities and Features

  • Vector’s Network Discovery meets a key requirement in the mid-range market for economic, easy to use, multi–vendor network device discovery. Alternatives to Vector include the free utilities provided by some device vendors, but which are usually restricted to their own devices. At the other end of the cost scale, major network performance management suites usually – but not always! - provide multi-vendor network device discovery, coupled with performance monitoring.
  • Vector’s Network Device Discovery is fully integrated into the Vector Asset Management Solution architecture, with Discovery being a simple checkbox in the automated install and deployment process.
  • Network device information is made available in a special section of the AM Console tree view. The richest information will come from fully SNMP-enabled devices.
  • Sophisticated analysis techniques not only build a map of your network topology, but will also – dependent on the extent to which intelligent network devices are being used – identify precisely which physical port each networked item (PC, printer, VoIP phone) is connected to.
  • The Asset Reporting Portal provides Web-based access to the Network Device Asset Information reports.
  • Given the popularity of MS Visio™ in compiling network documentation, Vector AM exports network maps in Visio format.

ITIL

  • Knowing where a PC is located can be very helpful both in diagnosing PC performance problems and in directing a visit to a PC when it becomes unavoidable. In both cases, the incident resolution time may be shortened, increasing the level of performance against a Service Level Agreement. Network Device Discovery is therefore provided in the Service Manager Pro Solution, with device information provided directly from inside the HelpDesk analyst’s console.
  • Change reports reveal where a networked asset has moved on the network, providing both alert information for unexpected changes and feedback to Change Management. (Feedback is important whether your Change Management is ITIL oriented or not!)
